Yves Olivier

The story of JB Motorsport starts in 1996 with a participation in the German Formula 3, Class B. Race driver Yves Olivier made a great career start by finishing third in his first season. The year after, he drove in Class A.

1999 proved to be a very successful year: Yves Olivier won his first race and Walter Van Lent was chosen as Rookie of the Year; results good enough to close the season with the prestigious of Macau and Korea. Yves finished 5th in the gp of Macau.

The Olivier Group took over the team in 2000, and made some clear changes in the objectives. From now on, JB Motorsport would primarily focus on the development of young, talented drivers. Yves himself ran that season in the Formula 3000 against competitors as Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber, Christijan Albers, Sebastian Bourdais,…

In 2001, the race drivers of JB Motorsport were Robert Doornbos, Nicolas Stelandre and Tom Van Bavel. In the same year, Opel took Yves as a works driver in DTM.

2002 offered again a very memorable event, as JB Motorsport was racing at the Zandvoort "Marlboro Masters" as the Marlboro team with drivers Stefan de Groot and Rob Austin.

In the following year, JB Motorsport was able to win the title in the German F3 Championship with Brazilian pilot João Paulo de Oliviera. This was the first time ever a Belgium team won this championship - often referred to as the "F1 breeding ground”. At the same time, the team won a 4th place in the unofficial world championship in Macau.

In 2004, Jan Heylen took over from de Oliveira. Together with Michael Devaney, he secured 8 victories, 8 pole positions and 14 podium appearances. JB Motorsport was ‘most successful team’ in that year's German F3 Championship.

The team of 2005 was comprised of the Chinese driver Ho-Pin Tung and the Dutch driver, Ferdinand Kool. Respectively, they ended in well-earned 3rd and 7th places.

In 2006 new investments where necessary and Yves Olivier opted for two new Lola chassis. In the driver seat we see once again last year’s drivers in what turned out to be a particularly successful collaboration: Ho-Pin Tung and Ferdinand Kool became champion and vice-champion in the German Formula 3.

The team of 2007 was comprised of two Belgian drivers, Nico Verdonck and Fréderick Vervisch. In the rankings, they ended in well-earned 3rd and 2nd place.

In view of further success for 2008 JB Motorsport and its director, Yves Olivier, were able to put a strong package together.  An agreement was made with Lola Cars and Volkswagen which would make JB Motorsport the factory team of Lola Cars and Volkswagen.  But fate decided otherwise when Lola Cars chose to retire from her activities in the Formule 3. And so, the Formule 3 story of JB Motorsport seemed to come to a halt.

And then an unique occasion arose for the 2008 season, when at the end of last season, visitors from Japan arrived. Dome Co Ltd was already active with a prototype in endurance races and was looking for a base in Europe. The agreement to provide premises and other services for "Dome LM Project, was made with JB Motorsport". And now Dome will be participating in 2008 Le Mans with its own team to maximize the performance of a Dome S102 and further more to obtain and precise technical information and to build up a database for future technical developments. To achieve these objectives, they will have full logistical support form JB Motorsport.

Over the last ten years the team exceeded by achieving 41 victories, 37 pole positions and 39 fastest laps.

The professionalism and high quality of the team is not only demonstrated by its results, but also by its reputation in the F1 world. Robert Doornbos now drives in Champ car whereas Ho-Pin Tung and de Oliveira and Fréderick Vervisch have been testing F1 racing cars. (Williams F1 and Force India F1)
